Our Community

Dr. Jessica Saint Pierre and Petrolia Optometry are proud to be active in our local community. Below are some of the activities which our practice has participated in.

On November 10, 2017 Dr. St. Pierre and the staff of Petrolia Optometry welcomed Bob Bailey to the office where he met with Dr. St. Pierre, had a tour of the office and watched Dr. St. Pierre perform an eye exam. These visits allow MPPs to see first-hand the work optometrists do, and how they contribute to Ontario’s health-care system.

drJessicaDiabetes101“Diabetes 101” Class at the Central Lambton Family Health Team:

Dr. St. Pierre volunteers her time to teach a 30-minute portion of the “Diabetes 101” class that is held approximately 4 times a year at the Central Lambton Family Health Team. She speaks to family health team diabetes patients about how diabetes affects the eye and the importance of regular eye examinations for diabetic patients.

Please contact Melissa at 519-882-2500 at the Central Lambton Family Health Team if you are interested in taking the class.

The Oil Heritage District Community Centre (“The Centre”) is the home to Boomers Extra, a senior social group that participates multiple activities including weekly lunches followed by an information program. On November 30, 2017, Dr. St. Pierre was invited to speak to the group about the importance of seniors eye exams. Dr. St. Pierre believes that one of the most important components of her job as optometrist is to educate the public on eye health and the importance of eye examinations so she really enjoyed having this opportunity to speak to large community group.

Petrolia Optometry enjoys participating in great community events like the Petrolia Santa Claus Parade. 2017 was their first year entering a float in the parade. They were pleased to be awarded Third Place Commercial entry in 2017.

While at Petrolia Optometry, students enjoyed a tour guided by Dr. Jessica St. Pierre which included stops in the finishing lab to see how lenses are cut, the digital imaging room to have retinal photos taken and the dispensary to see different types of sunglasses.

Students also learned about the importance of wearing sunglasses, having regular eye exams, starting at age 6 months.
